All competitors played well, and this tournament was special in that it invited several competitors who were new to chess. We hope we made this first tournament experience a special one, and we invite everyone to return!XFYD recently concluded its Spring Chess Tournament!
Over a tense three hours, 18 competitors from 2 age groups played hard as they tried to take home a trophy as one of the top three.
Darsh and Benjamin, our tournament directors, had their start in chess by playing in tournaments like these from a young age. Their desire to introduce more students to chess and kickstart their journeys as they discover this wonderful game is what drove them to hold over 6 free classes, both online and in-person, and to organize tournaments for students to apply what they’ve learned.
All competitors played well, and this tournament is special in that it invited several competitors who are new to chess. We hope we made this first tournament experience a special one, and we invite everyone to return for our next tournament!
Furthermore, many of our tournament attendees were students in our recently concluded Spring Online Chess Class, a free class taught by Benjamin and Darsh, our tournament directors, and Rondo, Ocean, and Emmanuel, all of whom have years of experience in chess. We hope that all students in our classes can further apply and hone their skills by using them in a professional setting. These tournaments take the chess experience outside of casual play, and introduce our students to an authentic tournament experience, helping them progress on their chess journey.
On top of this, all our competitors were served cookies, chips, Fruit Punch, and soft drinks, thanks to our wonderful volunteers Vanessa Martin and Ocean Cheng. This tournament would not be possible without their generous help setting up, cleaning up, and managing everything outside of the tournament room.
Without further ado, let's meet our winners!
