XFYD’s Winter Chess Tournament on December 30th, 2023 was a resounding showcase of brilliant minds on a chessboard.
Bringing together almost 30 competitors of all ages, this proved to be the most competitive tournament XFYD has hosted. All returning competitors played with much greater skill than our first tournament, and new competitors greatly impressed us with their virtuosity and determination. Above all, all competitors played with their determination to win and enjoy the intellectually rigorous and exciting game of chess.
The event wasn’t all about meticulous competition, though. In between rounds, participants and parents alike playfully relaxed at the pool area and enjoyed delicious popcorn, chips, and drinks sponsored by Trader Joe’s!

XFYD thanks everyone for participating in this tournament. We want to thank Trader Joe’s for their generous gift that lets us make this tournament enjoyable for competitors and parents. Most of all, we want to thank all the competitors for their sportsmanship and their drive to succeed at chess. In the end, we hope our talented competitors don’t leave with a memory of defeat, but with a drive to improve and steal the victory when returning to the next tournament!
