XFYD is pleased to announce that it is opening a new chess tournament!
The tournament is on Sunday, April 7th, and runs from 2 PM to 5:30 PM.
The tournament is divided into two age groups, K-3 and 4-6, and the top three winners in each age category will win a trophy!
Free snacks and drinks will be provided for all participants and parents.
This tournament is an important way for the students of our many chess classes to gain valuable playing time. Unfortunately, while we try to provide playing time, due to the brevity of XFYD Chess Classes, students do not get enough time to play as needed to practice the concepts we’ve taught. Playing experience is more important than listening to XFYD lectures, because it reinforces the concepts they learn and trains them to apply those concepts real-time to an actual game. It is easy to answer puzzles or watch the teacher solve a chess puzzle, but it is difficult to recognize the puzzle in a real game and solve it yourself. This tournament provides crucial application of concepts learned in our chess class.
This tournament is run like a formal tournament, exposing students to the atmosphere of a formal chess tournament. This is how XFYD hopes we can provide students an easy segway into higher-level competitive chess as they grow and mature beyond the scope of XFYD’s classes.
